Electric power generator types include AC generators and DC generators and AC generators are categorized
into induction type and synchronous type.
1) Induction type : Special-purpose generators
2) Synchronous type : Universal generators
¨ç Direct Current ¡æ D.C or DC
¨è Alternating Current ¡æ A.C or AC (3 phase 4 wires, single phase 3 wires)
Prime mover engine (Diesel, gas) used for generator operation is called an engine generator set.
Example : Diesel Engine Generator (Generating)Set
1. Stand-by or Emergency Use
1) Operation mode : Automatic
2)Used as emergency power for hospitals, hotels, offices, drainage pumps,
etc. for which mains power is efficiently supplied.
Prime or Continuous Power
1) Operation mode : Automatic or manual
2) Used as mains power in the areas where mains power is not efficiently supplied,
construction sites, remote islands, etc.
3) Prime power condition or continuous power
1) Standard type : Indoor type, built-in panel or classified panel
2) Soundproof type : Outdoor type, noise restricted area
3) Portable type : Outdoor, movable, construction site or event site
4) Bonnet type : Outdoor type, noise non-restricted area
The control panel provides a protective function to stop the engine at generator start/run/stop, operation status and output monitoring and abnormal
conditions such as overheating, overload, lubricant pressure drop, etc. The control panels are provided in the built-in type mounted on a generator
set and the classified type installed separated from the generator. When a classified control panel is used, the engine control panel is installed at the generator set.
